Like i mentioned in my first post , i can't "play" a MP4 in Movie Maker , i can NOT even import it , when i try to import it , i get the error , as i posted in my original post. What the error is saying , is that i do not have the codec needed , installed on my PC , so to me it would be easier to get the codec needed and install it , simple right??
The above error is not saying the codec is not compatible with Movie Maker 6. Unfortunately error messages are not always totally correct in what they say, if nobody designs tit to say not compatible, it will throw up the closest error based on not being able to play it, so you can't take the error message as gospel.
MP4's have indeed been around for a good number of years, there are also a good variety of different ones. Codecs are used by the originator of the file, so GoPro use a codec to make the file. You need to ascertain the codec type used by GoPro and then search the internet for this codec, purchase it if necessary and install it onto your pc.
As I have said, quicktime could supply the codec, and also that the earlier version of MM may not be compatible with the file and codec you want to use. The question was asked if you can play the file in WMP, as this would show that the codec is installed, if it does play, unfortunately it means MM cannot pull in the codec to work with your file. We have a stalemate, you can't update movie maker because of other software, so I see the only other option is to purchase some other video editing software.
